Precision site leveling and drainage grading that protects your home and sets your landscape up for lasting success.
Call (727) 617-8367Proper land grading is one of the most critical — and most overlooked — foundations of a healthy, functional Florida landscape. The way your property is graded determines how water flows across your lot, where it collects, and whether it moves safely away from your home's foundation. Get grading right from the start, and everything built on top of it — sod, planting beds, hardscaping, drainage systems — performs better and lasts longer.
At Edge Landscape Design of Palm Harbor, our grading specialists bring precision equipment, deep local knowledge, and a thorough understanding of Pinellas County's soil and stormwater behavior to every project. Whether you're correcting standing water problems, preparing a site for a complete landscape installation, or leveling an uneven lawn, we deliver grades that work season after season — through Florida's most intense rain events.
Foundation Protection: Improper grading allows water to pool against your home, leading to moisture intrusion, mold, and costly structural repairs.
Turf Health: Flat or low spots that collect water suffocate grass roots, creating bare, dead patches that weeds quickly colonize.
Hardscape Longevity: Patios, walkways, and driveways installed on poorly graded ground shift, settle, and crack prematurely.
Irrigation Efficiency: Even grading means water from your irrigation system distributes uniformly instead of running off or pooling unevenly.
Re-establishing positive slopes that channel rainwater away from your home's foundation and toward appropriate drainage outlets.
Top dressing and leveling of uneven or bumpy turf areas using quality soil blends, improving both aesthetics and mowing efficiency.
Full lot clearing and grading prior to new sod installation, hardscaping projects, or complete landscape build-outs.
Reshaping sloped areas to reduce erosion, stabilize soil, and create safer, more usable outdoor spaces on challenging terrain.
Strategic grading to form shallow swales that guide surface runoff efficiently across your property without eroding turf or plantings.
Restoring grades disturbed by construction activity, utility work, or new home builds to return your lot to proper drainage function.
Palm Harbor's characteristically flat topography and sandy, fast-draining soils present unique grading challenges. Unlike properties with natural slope, many Pinellas County lots require carefully engineered, shallow gradients to move surface water effectively. A slope that looks nearly invisible to the eye — just 1–2% — can make the difference between a yard that drains in hours and one that stands in water for days after a summer storm.
We begin every grading project with a detailed site assessment using laser levels and survey equipment to map existing elevations across your entire property. We identify high and low points, trace existing water flow patterns, and locate any areas where water is collecting against structures or in undesirable locations. From this assessment, we develop a grading plan that establishes target grades for each zone of your lot.
Our grading equipment ranges from compact skid-steers for tight residential yards to larger graders for open lots and commercial sites. We coordinate with 811 Sunshine State One-Call before any excavation work to ensure all underground utilities are marked and protected. When grading work is complete, we compact the soil to the appropriate density for its intended use — whether it's being covered with sod, paved over, or receiving planted bed installation.

(727) 617-8367Grading can be performed year-round in Florida, but the dry season (October through May) is typically ideal. Drier soil conditions make grading work more accurate and efficient, and completing grading before the summer rainy season means your corrected drainage will be in place when you need it most.
Minor lawn leveling can often be done with minimal disruption to existing turf. Significant regrading that requires moving large volumes of soil may require sod replacement in affected areas. We assess each situation individually and clearly communicate what to expect before any work begins.
Minor residential grading and lawn leveling typically does not require a permit in Pinellas County. However, larger earthwork projects or those that alter stormwater flow significantly may require review. We'll advise you on permit requirements specific to your project during the consultation.
In many cases, yes — grading alone resolves standing water issues by redirecting surface flow. For more severe drainage problems, grading is often combined with French drains, catch basins, or swales to create a complete drainage solution. We assess your situation and recommend the most effective approach.
